Back in May 2016 an image surfaced online of a solicitation for Arkham Horror: The Card Game, a card game spin-off of Fantasy Flight Games’ popular Arkham Horror board game. The image described a cooperative living card game seemingly along the lines of Fantasy Flight’s The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, a personal favorite of mine. There wasn’t much to the image (or even an official confirmation that it was real) but the possibility of a spiritual successor to the Lord of the Rings LCG was exciting to me.
Arkham Horror: The Card Game was officially announced by Fantasy Flight Games on August 2, 2016 (more than 2 months after that initial leaked teaser). Gen Con attendees were able to demo the game very soon after its announcement. Since then there’s been a steady stream of previews along with a whole lot of fun speculation. At this point we seem to be just about 3 or 4 weeks away from a mid-to-late October release, so the game’s “pre-release” phase is nearing its end.
It’s been a lot of fun for me to follow. Enough fun that I decided to lay some groundwork here for this blog, the Atlas Agency, anticipating that I may try my hand at contributing to the emerging Arkham Horror LCG community. I’m not completely settled on what form those contributions will take but I have some ideas. So pardon the dust while this space develops. For now, allow me to point you to the round-up of Arkham-related links over in the sidebar.
